Malaysia launch of ‘reef- exploring the underwater world’

Le Meridien, Kota Kinabalu, was the venue for the Malaysian launch of Scubazoo’s latest underwater coffee table book and DVD, entitled ‘reef – exploring the underwater world’. The launch was presided over by YB Datuk Karim Bujang with Tengku Zainal Adlin also present.

Following on from the success of Scubazoo’s first coffee table book – ‘Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai – Sabah’s Underwater Treasure’, published in 2005 by Natural History Publications at the end of last year, the team were commissioned by international publishing house Dorling Kindersley to produce a 350-page book focusing on reefs around the world for international distribution.

‘reef’ is a labour of love with truly spectacular photographs and enlightening text, including a 30 minute DVD mirroring the images from the book. Images and footage were collected from around the world, with over one-third taken in Scubazoo’s back yard – Sabah, Malaysian Borneo. The publication of ‘reef’, with a print run over 150,000 copies, makes it the biggest publication of an underwater coffee table book of this kind ever, worldwide.

However, the Scubazoo team do more than just take pretty pictures. Another driving passion is conservation, and they are dedicated to increasing awareness of the marine environment and the need for its preservation and conservation. Through their productions and publications, Scubazoo aim to share the amazing beauty of the underwater realm, with as many people as possible around the world – locals and visitors, divers and non-divers, young and old.

Scubazoo would like to thank everyone for their attendance and especially thank Keyna Fung and family as well as Urs Weisskopf and all the staff of Le Meridien for their generosity in hosting the event.
